Disclaimer: I've never been to Capri, but it does look lovely. I have been in some taxis, though.
Capri, for those of you who don't know, is an island off the Amalfi Coast of Italy, close to Napoli/Naples. It's a traditional Italian holiday destination, and this is reflected in their choice of taxis to shuttle you around the island. After all, why go on holiday only to be sealed into a vehicle with only a dubious air freshener and/or the taxi driver's own cologne/body odour for company when you can enjoy the sun and soak up some rays, possibly even attract some jealous looks from passers by?
It seems that you're not really a Capri taxi driver unless your car lacks a roof. For really sunny days, a stripy parasol-type arrangement can be erected above your conveyance. If there is an unexpected rainstorm, best be lucky, or have a hood stowed away somewhere. However, given the age and unique structures that some of these vehicles display, water-tightness of whatever they have for a hood is not guaranteed.
Sadly, not all the taxis are as chic as those pictured above. In recent years, the converted multi-seat versions of various cars have been less successful, appearance-wise.
Of course, it didn't take long for those enterprising souls at Nissan Italy to realise that they had a multi-seat vehicle in their range which would be ideal for holiday taxi duties: the Serena. Oh dear...
However, all is not lost. The Serena is no longer produced, so a new vehicle was needed to represent the company and show off how stylish New Nissan can be. I bring you... the Evalia C:
Beautiful, isn't it? Hang on, though. This idea could catch on in other markets too...
